Here's how i do it:

Buy 10 brass flowerpots at boythz nicknacks in bastok mines. Buy 20 Light crystals. Buy 10 tree cuttings in jeuno (most of the time cheaper then bastok, check if tree cuttings are cheaper by piece then by stack, the price seems to fluctuate alot) Put those brass flowerpots in your mog house. Wait till it's Lightsday (important!) Plant those tree cuttings into your brass pots. Then check your plants at least once every 24 hours. If there's a maintenance planned, check them just before maintenance starts just to be sure. After a day or 3 you will have a new option listed in your 'gardening menu' : 'Feed crystal' Wait till it's Darksday and then use that option to feed a light crystal to all your 10 pots. Continue to check your plants every day till the option reappears, feed another 10 light crystals on darksday. Continue checking your plants every day till suddenly the 'Harvest' option appears into your gardening menu. You'll notice it on your plants too. Important: always check if you have like 10 empty mog house space available cause when you harvest your nuggets will be placed in it. I have harvested on different days, so i don't think harvestday plays a big role in harvest results. (I'm gonna try Lightsday next time i harvest)

Now about results: Only about 5 plants will yield platinum nuggets (by my own experience), some plants will give only a few, like 4 or 2. But some plants can give you as much as 18 nuggets (my record). Other results could be dark crystals or rock salt.

I get around 4 stacks of nuggets for each mule. They're going for like 140k/stack now! :)

I use a crafting timer to plan my crystal feedings: >>http://www.onlinemike.com/timer/crafttimer.html
