The bullets were only possible because I had alchemy already (note that firesand is an alchemy synth as well). I failed two bullet synths from 11-16 and only lost one firesand from it. Considering these levels usually cost a lot and bullets are profitable I really felt like a winner.
The silver bullets, on the other hand… Well I don't recommend you try what I did unless you have some money to spare. I broke quite a few of them (luckily you lose only the crystal most of the time), but the skillups were amazing. I say amazing because I levelled alchemy from 47-53 on them at the same time as goldsmithing 19-22.
24-27 really hurt, I lost around 40K on that, because the desynth of the hairpins has a rather low success rate. I did HQ one, however, cutting the loss back to 32K or so. In theory silver chains are break even if you don't fail the synths, and I hope they carry me to 33 with minimal losses.
Well guess what, silver ingot prices went up and silver chain prices dropped. I took a titanic loss on sardonyx rings instead. The only good thing about them was the skill rate seemed quite high. (Though I had just come off of doing lvl 60+ alchemy synths.)
Mythril ingots from coins are a small loss (Small for goldsmithing that is! 8-15K per stack you make if you don't break em).
4/12/06 I don't think any of the above comments on costs are valid anymore. Anyway I spammed GP for this so that I can level up on reraise earrings. I'll be doing that soon.
5/16/06 I need to farm some somber and startling memories… I seem to keep missing them on AH. They're expensive too. (To make the vivified mythril.)
6/10/06 I've farmed some and then broke down and bought some memories. The reraise earrings are break even anyway, so it's not really a problem.
