In all hindsight I should have levelled this to 100 starting on day 1 of FFXI play. I'd be making a tremendous killing on it now. Of course, if I had anything to 100 I'd be making a killing… Clothcraft is one that no one in KA is taking the distance yet, however. My skewed perspective tells me that Woodworking, Alchemy, Cooking, Fishing, and Leatherworking are the popular crafts on Midgardsormr, in that order, with Boneworking and Clothcraft being left more by the wayside. I'd love to see some statistics on how many people have each craft past 60, 80, and at 100 on our server.
Anyway, more than enough blathering on… here's how my weaving is going:
| synth | levels | crystal | ingredients |
|---|
| grass thread | 0-1 | wind | yagudo necklace |
| grass cloth | 1-4 | earth | grass thread x3 |
| cape | 4-6+ | earth | grass thread, grass cloth x2 |
Everyone, and I mean everyone, should already have made 378423 grass threads from yag necklaces in giddeus.
Capes are the selbina synth. Grass cloth and thread is cheapest there, bring plenty of earth crystals and not much else, and cram them all day. The guild is open 6-21, I believe. It's basically all loss, however. If you want to spend 3 months you can probably sell all the cape on AH (for 50%+ loss instead of 100%). I believe that SE set up each leveling section of a craft to have a "basic materials" synth, but for 4-8 this synth is cotton cloth from cotton thread. Due to its many other uses, cotton thread costs more than the cloth per stack, and its a 3:1 synth. On midgardsormr this means 20K loss per stack of synths, meaning likely more than 80K loss to get from lvl 4 to lvl 8.
If SE cared… they'd make cotton thread a common drop off of something sissy, or they'd have a GM stuff the AH full of threads at 100g/stack to drive down the price. I guess that'd ruin the "fun" of a "real" economy, though. Well now you can guess why clothcraft is unpopular, everyone hits an 80K wall at lvl 4.
