Each of these items have different uses and are described in length below. Those who use magic will be much more interested in the obi while those who melee will be intrigued by the gorgets. - Once you have made your selection, trade __Yurim__ the appropriate "base" items (i.e. chip + obi, gorget, or earring). - Next, trade __Yurim__ an __[apple pie]__ and she will talk to you in depth about where you will be able to obtain your final ingredients. - Travel to __[Al'Taieu]__ and start forcibly extracting organs from all visible sea creatures (be sure to check their organ donor card first). Each Obi/Gorget/Earring requires a different combination of organ and tissue; use the information provided below to determine which organs you need to farm. - With a Thief in your party, organs will drop ~~very~~ frequently; often getting H.Q. organs that are used to spawn sea gods. __[Luminian Tissue]__ is the only real rarity, but all of the creatures in __Al'Taieu__ have the possibility of dropping it. However, it's a random effect and you will rarely see it happen. In the same way, casting on a elemental day that your spell is weak against will cause your magic to have -10% effectivness ~~(for more information, see {link:Crystals and the Clock|http://www.koolaid-ffxi.org/linkshell/space/Crafting})~~. All that these __elemental obi__ do is guarantee that, when the latent is active, the random elemental bonus works 100% of the time. The latent effect is activated on the day and/or weather that is associated with the __obi__ being worn. For instance: - If you cast an elemental spell of the same element as the __obi__ on the corresponding __elemental day__, you will get a __10%__ spell bonus. - If you cast an elemental spell of the same element as the __obi__ while the corresponding __weather element__ is in effect, you will get a __10%__ spell bonus. - If you cast an elemental spell of the same element as the __obi__ during the corresponding __double weather element__, you will get an additional __10%__ spell bonus. For example, lets take into consideration what would happen on __Lightsday__, if you were (or were not) wearing the __Korin Obi__: ~~Without~~ the __Korin Obi__ equipped, on __Lightsday__ (or during __light weather__), a regular __Cure__ spell will randomly heal for 10% more HP; __Holy__ will randomly do 10% more damage, etc. Now, ~~with~~ a __Korin Obi__ equipped, that 10% will activate 100% of the time. Also, it's cumulative; meaning, if you cast a __Cure__ spell on __Lightsday__ during __double light weather__ with the __Korin Obi__ equipped, your __Cure__ spell will do an extra 30% healing. However, rumor has it that wearing the __Korin Obi__ during __Darksday__ (or dark weather) will make all light-based magic 10% ~~less~~ effective (unsure if this has been proven or not). In essence, these __Obi__ just guarantee that a normally random effect works 100% of the time, similar to how the BLM AF2 legs work (__[Sorcerer's Tonban]__). These two items ~~are~~ cumulative (i.e. they stack); wearing the __[Sorcerer's Tonban]__ on __Thundersday__ while wearing a __Rairin Obi__, you're guaranteed to get +20% more damage out of your __Thunder__ spells. It may interest some that __Dynamis__ always has __double dark__ weather, making the __Anrin Obi__ quite appealing; especially since [Sleep], [Sleep II], [Sleepga], and [Sleepga II] are all dark-elemental based. One of these ongoing confusions has always been the __[weaponskill attributes]__. While I understand that each weaponskill ~~does~~ has an attribute or two (or sometimes three), I have never understood why. I've kept searching for some logical rhyme or reason for it and, so far, have not found one. The answer simply seems to be that "Square-Enix just programmed it that way" or "people discovered these attributes through trial and error" or "the Japanese have a Strategy Guide that's superior to Brady". Although it seems impossible to determine any logical formula to indicate why a certain weaponskill has the __weaponskill attribute__ that it does, one thing is for certain—they exist. {image:attributes.jpg} For example, let’s consider the __Dagger__ [weaponskill attributes]: - __Wasp Sting__ and __Viper Bite__ have a __Scission__ (earth) weaponskill attribute. - __Shadowstich__ has a __Reverberation__ (water) weaponskill attribute. - __Gust Slash__ has a __Detonation__ (wind) weaponskill attribute. - __Cyclone__ has both a __Detonation__ (wind) and an __Impaction__ (thunder) weaponskill attribute. - __Shadowstich__ has a __Reverberation__ (water) weaponskill attribute. - __Energy Steal__ and __Energy Drain__ have NO corresponding weaponskill attributes. - __Shark Bite__ has a __Fragmentation__ (thunder) weaponskill attribute. - __Dancing Edge__ has both a __Scission__ (earth) and __Detonation__ (wind) weaponskill attribute. - __Evisceration__ has both a __Fragmentation__ (thunder) and __Transfixion__ (light) weaponskill attribute. Aside from the arbitrary __[weaponskill attributes]__ discussed above, each weaponskill also has an __elemental attribute__ which is determined by the little colored boxes that appear next to the weaponskill names in your weaponskill list. However, your weaponskill's __elemental attribute__ only specifies if your weaponskill does elemental damage (i.e. the magical effect of the weaponskill). Again, let’s use __Dagger__ weaponskills as our example: - __Wasp Sting__ and __Viper Bite__ both have a dark blue colored box next to their name; they both also have an added __Poison__ effect, which is water-based. - __Shadowstich__ has a __Bind__ effect which is ice-based (light blue). - __Gust Slash__ and __Cyclone__ are both wind-based damage (green box). - __Energy Steal__ and __Energy Drain__ both have an __Aspir__ effect, which is dark-based (black). - __Shark Bite__ does light-based damage and is represented by a white box that is indistinguishable from the non-elemental white boxes that are described below. - __Dancing Edge__ and __Evisceration__ have no magical effect, therefore, they are shown as gray (white); 90% of all weaponskill elemental attributes have this designation—this is indicated by their colored box as being either white/gray. There has been much confusion between the __[weaponskill attributes]__ and the __elemental attributes__, especially in relation to the elemental gorgets and how they work. However, the truth of the matter is that the "increased weaponskill damage and accuracy" that these gorgets provide is only activated by the __weaponskill attribute__ and has ~~nothing~~ to do with the __elemental attribute__ (the little colored boxes next to the weaponskill name). Keep in mind that the __weaponskill attribute__ also has ~~nothing~~ to do with how you __skillchain__. Whether you start or close the skillchian, your __weaponskill attribute__ remains the same; in other words, you'll never need to make a skillchain to get your latent to go off, since it only applies to your __weaponskill attribute__. There has also been some confusion about which gorget that one would choose for weaponskills that have two __[weaponskill attributes]__; for example, __Evisceration__ (thunder & light) and __Dancing Edge__ (earth & wind). Most people just stick to the primary __weaponskill attribute__. People who keep very detailed parsers have indicated that these gorgets ~~can~~ increase weaponskill damage by 15-18% and definitely help with accuracy. However, some of the increased damage on certain weaponskills is so minimal that some people may start to believe that they have chosen the wrong elemental gorget; only extensive parsing will be able to determine increased damage—even if it is only slightly better. While the effects of the gorgets will react differently to each weaponskill, there are just some that do not show much improvement. Most people agree that these gorgets are especially useful for multi-hit weaponskills (e.g. __Asuran Fists__ or __Guillotine__) as they significantly increase your accuracy, although there has been some debate about this as well. These gorgets are especially useful in exp parties because you commonly use the same weaponskills for every skillchain. However, most people usually decide to give them a pass because they don't need yet another piece of (Rare/Ex) equipment clogging up their inventory space and most doubt that the extra damage they provide is enough to write home about. Not to mention that each gorget is Lv.72 and requires at least one (if not two) [Yovra] organs to complete, making them nearly impossible for the casual player to farm.
