The Smilebringers

presentmound

The Smilebringers are helpers that give out presents to the children of Vana'diel. The smilebringers are Charmealaut in Northern San d'Oria (J-9), Christina in Bastok Mines (G-9) and Atagei-Portagei in Windurst Woods. When you talk to them they will give a Present for the kiddies.

presentforthekiddies

You can trade this to children of Vana'diel and increase your "Holiday fame" or "Joy" by 1 point. Make sure you have a Dream Hat or Dream Hat +1 equipped. Dream hats can be bought from Event Stores. When you have succesfully traded a Present for the Kiddies to a child, you will get a message "You've brought barrelfuls of joy to the children of Vana'diel." or "You've brought joy to the children on Vana'diel." This can be done once per Vana'diel day and remember that giving presents to the same child will eventually overload them. So spread it around and come back to them later. You can also raise your "Joy" by trading children fireworks obtained from the Twinkling Treant. Its estimated that roughly 10 fireworks equal 1 point of "joy". You can then use this "Joy" to travel San d'Oria, Bastok and Windurst by talking to a smilebringer (you must have a Dream Hat or Dream Hat +1 equipped), or you can save up "Joy" to get the Dream Hat +1. Each warp will cost 1 point of "Joy". You can find out your "Joy" by reading the message the smilebringers say before they mention about warping.

0 points - "You haven't brought any happiness to the children! What a disappointment!
1 point - "You've done some good. You just need to give a little extra effort!"
2 points - "You have done fairly well. Keep it up!"
3 points - "You have given the children much joy! You make a good smilebringer."
4 points - "You have brought smile upon smile to the children! Excellent work!"
5 points - "You have the children bursting with glee! Stupendous job!"
6 points - "The children love you, even I think you're great!"

Event Stores

There will be Nomad Moogles in the 3 cities vending event items. Their locations are Northern San d'Oria (G-8), Port Bastok (L-8) and Windurst Waters (G-10).

The Twinkling Treant

treant

A Nomad Moogle will be fighting off Twinkling Treants in Northern San d'Oria, Bastok Markets and Windurst Woods. Every 7.5 Vana'diel hours (15 minutes), the smilebringers will disappear and one of these Treants will spawn near the Watchtower of San d'Oria (F-7), at the West Gate of Bastok (D-11) and the Dhalmel Farms of Windurst (H-8).

When the Treant spawns, follow it around and {/cheer} on the Treant, NOT the Moogle. You do not need a Dream Hat or Dream Hat +1. Once the Treant has wandered up to where the smilebringer is near by, it'll de-spawn and the smilebringer will re-appear. Talk to the near-by smilebringer and they'll mention that there are impostor smilebringers around the cities. You are then find out these Imposters and return to the smilebringer for your reward.

The impostors will be NPC's around the area wearing a santa hat (or a Dream Hat if you so call it) and will randomly be one of the four. DO NOT ZONE this re-sets the imposter quest and you'll have to find the treant again. Impostor locations are as follows:

North San d'Oria
Justi, Justi's Furniture Shopkeeper (G-8)
Vichuel, Fauregandi Regional Vendor (F-4)
Tavourine, Royal Armory Shopkeeper (E-4)
Pirvidiauce, Standard Merchant (D-8)

Retto-Marutto, Bonecraft Guild Merchant (H-12)
Taraihi-Perunhi, Derfland Regional Vendor (K-10)

When you find an impostor, a transparent Moogle will appear above the NPC's head and say the following dialog:

<NPC>: Who the kewpo are you, kewpo?
I'm doing nothing wrong here, see? I'm smilebringing to nice boys and girls, kewpo! Move along! Move along!
