It is best to begin fishing in freshwater streams, rivers and ponds and then slowly graduate to the coastal areas for saltwater fishing. When you are feeling especially brave, fishing off the Mhaura-Selbina boat can weild some interesting catches.

Like any skill, fishing starts out very slowly. You will find it hard to get any skill points in fishing (because you are unable to catch anything) for the first little while. However, as you slowly accumulate skill ponits here and there, you will start seeing a more steady progression in the things you catch and how much more quickly your skill points will raise.

The best times for fishing are in the early morning (05:00-06:00) and at sunset (17:00-18:00). The nighttime is the next best fishing time. Fish are earier to catch during the new moon and the full moon (times of low and high tides).

Fish are also easier to catch when the zone is having a weather condition (i.e. wind, cloud cover, or rain).

Always be sure to match your rod and your bait to the type of fish you are trying to catch. Some rods are specifically geared to catching smaller fish and some will be able to handle very large fish. Your bait also determines what kind of fish you will catch (bottom-dwellers, skimmers, etc).

The time between the "You have caught something!" and when you press the button to reel in you catch has nothing to do with what you catch or what happens to your rod, althought it is nice to imagine so. However, if you do not reel in your catch within 10 seconds or so, you catch will get away.

Sometimes, while fishing, you might catch a rusty piece of equiptment; these items are the culprits of many a broken fishing rod. It is rumored that fishing off the Mhuara-Selbina boat can bring in some interesting items...
