BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
For more info about pets and sic attacks, see Pet Information
#EMs are the highest you should ever charm. T+ are hard to charm over and over again and have short charm times.
***With full AF it is possible to hold SOME T mobs for the duration of a battle
#Some mobs are charm resistant. Catuars, Slimes, Opo-opos, and some BCNM mobs are all I can think of. If you Gauge and it says "It would be difficult for < name > to charm < mob >." and its not IT+ it is probably charm resistant.
#Broths are more of BCNMs/ENMs/Farming… the only thing they are good for leveling wise is an emergency pet to finish/delay a mob before finding a new pet.
#Crab broths are best all-around broth because they follow you as you level. But, other broths are better at the time you can use them. For example sheeps and rabbits are better to use at 23 (unless your following Beast chart), beetles are better at 38, Fungurs at 48, etc. Same goes for HQ, thats why in BST Maat battles people use Panzar Gallahand instead of Courier Carrie… although I think I'm going to try Carrie just to be different :P
#Nobles Ribbon, Bird Whistle, CHR rings, Corsette are essential for making your leveling and charming experience a pleasent one. If you are rich and have a lot of inv space you can buy 1 1/2 set of equipment and marco it, but that is overkill and not needed at all. Getting and keeping a charm is very important, and failing a charm while fighting a mob can sometimes mean death. Buying extra equip is sort of silly since you usually only fight or agro mob for killing blow or when switching pets. Duos/Trios in later levels it is ok to fight alongside pet most of time (ie Beetles in Western Altepa).
#Goblins Pets have an odd hate system. Your pet can hold hate, but as soon as you pull out weapon on it the hate (most of the time) switches right onto you. The key # is 3 hits. This means that after your pet hits the gobbo pet, you can get a few hits in without worry. As soon as you see it turn, stop fighting and wait another 3 hits. Usually you shouldn't fight Gobbo pets anyway (except for killing blows).
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 0~7 | Gustaberg | Everything | Nothing |
NOTES: This is annoying, you have the power to charm in case of emergencies… but you really shouldn't. I know this is annoying… but bear with. Out of all 3 nations, I found Gustaberg to be the best.
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 7~13 | Konstacht Highlands => La Thiene Plateau | Everything | Nothing |
NOTES: Again, very annoying. You are very close to charming stuff though. Just keep your eye on the prize is all I can say about this. This is one of the deciding factors in becoming a BST… its probably why there are so few because you are so tempted to charm stuff but you cant.
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 13~22 | Tahrongi Canyon => Valkurm Dunes | Dhalmels, Goblins | Crawlers, Dhalmels, Lizards, Flies |
NOTES: This was foggy for me. But I'll try to remember as much as I can. You will fight Dhalmels first, charming crawlers or whatnot to fight. Watch out because they link, and gobs and yagudo are around so don't fall asleep :p Pretty sooon after that you'll be charming Dhalmels to fight Dhalmels… when they start giving crap xp, you know its time to move onto Valkurm Dunes. Bubu pen is also good if Valkurm is packed full of morons.
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 22~29 | Qufim | Worms, Pugs, Wights | Crabs, Pugs, Bats |
NOTES: Here is the fun part. I would recommend you start to look a the beast correlation chart for some helpful hints on what to versus what when you can. For example: Bats are very good against wights and pugs are very good against Gigas.
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 29~31 | Korrolocka | Spiders, Leeches | Spiders, Jellies, Leeches |
NOTES: You might just get a Carbuncles Ruby like I did, twice :D ***WARNING WARNING WARNING*** Bats are VERY VERY BAD PETS to charm, USE ONLY FOR EMERGENCY… YOU MAKE BIG TRAIN FALL DOWN DEAD /CRY Other than that have fun!
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 31~40 | Eastern Altepa Desert | Sand Beetles, Goblins Spiders, Dhalmels, Doom Scorps | Spiders, Dhalmels, Beeltes |
NOTES: Charm Desert Spiders first and versus some Goblin Spiders. It can be very dangerous, especially if you've never dealt with Goblin pets before… you will train your BST senses here. You are much better off to be with BST trio/duo with good friends to have some safety while you learn. You'll catch on fast how the system works hehe. If you suck at spiders, the slower but extremly safe alternative is Beetles. When goblin spiders start to crap out, go for Dhalmels (you should be about the point where you can charm beetles). When you can charm Dhalmels, do Dhalmels & Beetles vs Scrops. Again better with duo/trio.
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 40~46 | Crawlers Nest => Western Altepa | Nest Beetles, Desert Beetles | Bees, Caveberries(*Semi-Danger*), Lizards, Dhalmels |
NOTES: This is where you start to have a hate feud with full size lower level parties. They will walk all over you , steal your spot and tell you to go away… very annoying… but you just 2hour a Doom Scorp and start /laugh 'ing near them and they magically go away.... (sometimes ;p).
Desert beetles are very very very very very very good with duo/trio. When you can charm dhalmels in Western I'd highly recommend going for it. Fight near that giant rock west of Rabao and fight on the side closest to Rabao. The whole half side of the rock will be awsome.
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 46~52 | Gustav Tunnel | Goblins, Shepeards Leeches | Leeches, Flies, Lizards, Makara |
NOTES: Get ready to bunk with Bune, he is your new roomate! It doesn't matter really, because you will be killing everything in sight.... but poachers are the easiest, robbers are hard to hit, and reapers spells are annoying. Watch out for goblinsavior. It is very easy to Marathon and kill him though, provided you dont link any gobs onto you and you release pets, and you dont mischarm.
You CAN fight Shepards and Mercs at 50+ IF, and ONLY IF you have a TRIO. You would need to fight besides you pets, run very fast from Bomb tosses, and avoid easier gobs from linking (not to mention bune)… but it is possible. Iirc, I had a trio that took down a shepard and we got a Beastmaster Testimony.
Goblin pets take patience, with Bishamonx… it took a lot more patience since sooo many people are in that tunnel almost all day all the time. With Bishamon… it was a lot easier to get to 52 really fast because shepards were left alone for the most part for a good amount of time.
An alternative? Go back to Western Altepa Desert. You get sick and tired of the same spot for so long though, I really thought Gustav Tunnel was a nice change of pace.
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 52~53 | Bostaunieux Oubliette | Werebats | Dark Aspics |
NOTES: TURN ON SNEAK BEFORE YOU ENTER! As soon as you enter, you fall right on 2~3 Dark Apsics. Fight near the West Ronafure exit (and if you dont have a map that is the southwestern most part of the Bos. Everything pretty much agros to sound. Leechs (Bloodsuckers) I am guessing agro to smell or sight. Either way, make sure you don't fall. Remember the sewer lid that guy opened up when you first fell? thats what trap doors look like. They are under the water throuhout the sewers. They are easy to spot, and if you run over them without stopping on/near them you wont fall. Trap doors make you fall on a plethora of leeches. You will probably die (unless they agro to sound, then I guess your safe).
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 54~56 | Garlaige Citadel | Hellmines, Chamber Beetles | Funnel Bats |
NOTES: You may need sneak to move around Serket room, but you definitly need sneak to move around and pull in the Hellmine room. Remember: Sneak DOES NOT wear off with Fight, Sic, and Heel but Sneak DOES wear with Leave and Charm. Hellmines are very nice 250+ for each one. DO NOT MELEE HELLMINES! Self-Destruct is ~1k damage. Beetles are meleeable at ~50% HP with new bats.
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 57~58 | Garlaige Citadel | Hellmines, Magic Pots, Weapons | Chamber Beetles, Funnel Bats |
NOTES: Only charm EM beetles. You may want to fight some T beetles if they start to build up and block escape routes. Hellmines should be first, get all 4 (one at a time of coure :P) from the donut room that branches of Serket spawn room. Then you want to hit the 3 Magic Pots in the Serket room. Then if Hellmines haven't respawned, Pots are all gone, and beetles are not being troublesome, fight weapons. Cure IV and Stoneskin make they a tad annoying at time, but not too much of a problem provided you have enough pets. Undead are an alternative to weapons as an alternative time waster. Fallen Mages cast Ancient Magic like pots, so try not to melee. Fallen Majors are also good, with both though watch it for blood saber, this is one reason why you might not want to melee. Wraiths = death, so avoid them. Serket can NOT be duo'd or marathoned, so don't try. Not like you'll get the claim from a window of about 0.5 seconds.
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 58-60 | Quicksand Caves* | Ants | Sand Lizards |
*Southernmost entrance in the hidden part of Western Altelpa Desert (One you need to goto for ZM6 I believe)
NOTES: You can and should melee, and its about time… your probably super gimped in the Axe Skill department from all those bombs. Try to avoid PLD's: Cure IV can be very annoying. Fight them if they are only thing or if they are in the way though, don't try sneaking around and just fight by that one spot located right when you leave narrow entrance hall. BLM's: avoid -agas and don't pull hate onto yourself, AM can hurt bad..
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 60~63 | Boyhada Tree | Robber Crabs, Knight Crawlers, Aquarius* | Death Caps, Bark Spiders |
*Might want to wait to 62 to try and fight him… and you'd probably need a duo not to kill him but to keep him claimed.
NOTES: Very safe experience and these things drop coffer keys so be sure to keep an eye out for coffer boxes that spawn in the area to get money. At 62 things get very slow, you'll start to see EM crabs and crawlers. Me and Drew might try to fight so Gobbues or something… but those are probably too tough atm.
Solo
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 63~64 | Ifrits Cauldron | Goblins(Shepards,etc.), Volcanic Gas | Dire Bats, Volcano Wasps, Old Opo-ops* |
- *Opos are charm resistant, stay with DC if you can but EM should handled with caution especially mid-battle
- NOTES: Bring (or buy :p) some mining gear and picks. Mine and fight till your hearts content.
Trio
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 63~65 | Cape Terrigan | Goblins, Raptors, Sand Cockatrices* | Sand Lizards |
- *This is your priority kill, other mobs to fight are just if they pop and get in your way.
- NOTES: Melee with pets. This is fun once you find a safe spot (I'll post it if I go back).
Solo
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 65~67 | Upper Delkfutt's Tower | Magic Pots, Jotunns | Dire Bat, Incubus Bats |
- NOTES: B-O-R-I-N-G but it's what I did. Xp is decent and your spot is relativly safe. There is a maximum of Two parties that can camp here at the spot on the stairs in between floros 11 and 12. Any more is not workable and you'll fail. Only try this if you can find any bsts, are alone and very bored, and want xp at a fairly decent rate.
3~4 Beasts (5 might work, but haven't tried it personally)
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 65~70 | Boyahda Tree | Elder Gobbue | Mouriches*, Moss Eaters |
- *Charm resistant, at 67 it is safe to charm these repeatedly, but below just use moss eaters
- NOTES: VERY FUN!!! VERY FAST!!! You'll be earning like 4k an hour, super fast and super fun.
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 71-75 | Bibiki Bay | Dhalmel | Birds, Bunnies |
Meriting
| Level | Where | Mobs to fight | Mobs to charm |
|---|
| 40(CAPPED) | Riverene Site A01 | IT Hippos | Jug pets (Fungur good and cheap) |
NOTES: Trio is good, Quad could easily work. Best part about it is (a.) it's the spot right before Monarch Linn zone, so you can do the Bugard ENM (duo'd with another bst and got it down to 40% without 2 hour or bisuits, quad would own) and (b.) these hippos drop head feathers (although none dropped for me ;;)
And for the bad: you need some bst's with ACCESS to A01. might be hard seeing as I know some people who still havent done promy's. Also you need 40 gear, and how many 75's have a full set of 40 cap gear on them? (Besides me :P)
